Bahrain: Post-War Issues and U.S. Policy
Bahrain is one of the closest allies of the United States in the Persian Gulf. It has hosted headquarters for U.S. naval forces in the Gulf since the end of 'World War II. Although Bahrain has been politically calmer over the past year, a period of uncertainty began when Bahrain's long-serving ruler died suddenly on March 6, 1999.
