U.S. National Science Foundation: An Overview
The majority of the research supported by the NSF is conducted at U.S. colleges and universities. Approximately 82.6% ($3,174.9 million) of NSF's FY2005 $3,844.2 million research and development (R&D) budget was awarded to U.S. colleges and universities. On May 2, 2007, the House Committee on Science and Technology passed H.R. 1867 (H.Rept. 110-114), the National Science Foundation Authorization Act of 2007. The bill authorizes a total appropriation of $21.0 billion for the NSF for FY2008, FY2009, and FY2010.
