The Iran Sanctions Act (ISA)

International pressure on Iran to curb its nuclear program is causing foreign firms' hesitation to invest in Iran's energy sector. No firms have been sanctioned under the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA), and a GAO study in December 2007 said that the effects of it and other U.S. sanctions on Iran's economy are "difficult to determine." However, U.S. and U.N. sanctions are hindering Iran's efforts to expand oil production beyond 4.1 million barrels per day. In the 110th Congress, two bills passed by the House (H.R. 1400 and H.R. 7112), and several others, add ISA provisions.
